When the fisherman introduces his friend Grabby the Crabby to readers, the crab does what the crab does best -- he grabs!
Throughout the book, the frantic fisherman flails and flounders as he pleads with readers to help shake off the crustacean from his hands, his toes, his… What else??? Oh no!
This book empowers young readers to take action by shaking their bodies -- and helps pre-schoolers learn their body parts too. (BONUS!) The pages are visually impressive, combining illustrations by Donald Swenson with actual photos.
The pictures were all taken on Long Island -- maybe you might know where!
The characters of Grabby the Crabby and the fisherman originally debuted in a song called and “Grabby the Crabby” on the Lena's "Happy as Clams" album in 2013. Later, Grabby starred in the musical “Happy as Clams” which debuted at The Long Island Children's Museum.
Like any crab, Grabby has molted over the years. We are extremely grateful to all the people who have “played a part” theatrically, musically, visually, emotionally and editorially. AND YOU!!!
Art takes an “ecosystem” of supportive people – and we have been blessed! THANK YOU!
